Revitalize Your Skin with Spider Vein Treatment

Spider veins are small red or blue veins found just below the surface of the skin. These veins look like a spider-web, hence the name. In more severe cases these veins can even appear as branches of a tree. Cosmetically they are unattractive, and, on the legs may also cause itching, burning, or throbbing. On the face they are often visible as little thread-like veins, sometimes covering quite an extensive area.

Most spider veins do not cause any symptoms. If spider veins DO cause pain, swelling, heaviness of the leg, or other skin changes, a more serious underlying vein problem needs to be investigated. This could be due to venous reflux, and needs to be treated first, before any other procedures are done.

As far as treatment is concerned, various drugs and creams will not, and cannot, improve the appearance of the spider veins.

Factors affecting the occurrence of Spider veins

●spider veins are common amongst both men and women, affecting 50-80% of the general population

●any skin type is affected, although the veins are more visible on a lighter skin, and less obvious on a darker skin

●a family history of varicose veins can also play a role.

●occasionally trauma to the skin can mark the onset and appearance of these tiny threadlike veins.

●weak or damaged valves allow de-oxygenated blood to flow and leak backwards in the vein, causing them to congest and become varicosed.

●over-exposure to the sun causes spider veins on the cheeks and nose of fair-skinned people.

●smoking and obesity can also contribute to spider vein formation, as they restrict circulation, which in turn causes the veins to swell, causing spider veins.

It is certainly time to consider spider vein treatment if –

●your spider veins are becoming unsightly
●if the veins on the face are starting to branch
●if you want to eliminate the sign of aging

Who Gives Successful Vein Treatments?

Dr Majid Bashy, who founded the Vein Clinic of Las Vegas, is a qualified medical professional with expert knowledge in the cosmetic field, having extensive exposure to the study of veins.

Many of his colleagues refer to him as ‘The best vein doctor in Las Vegas’. All treatments at his clinic are done by Dr Bashy himself.

In the Vein Clinic of Las Vegas, each new patient will undergo a thorough evaluation using a duplex ultrasound scanner to accurately assess the extent of vein damage, and blood flow patterns.

Dr Bashy has done more than 50,000 sclerotherapy procedures, with exceptional results and success.

There are a few other options available to the patients who consult Dr Bashy for their spider vein treatments, but sclerotherapy remains the treatment of choice.

Sclerotherapy definition

Sclerotherapy is the injection of a sclerosing liquid into the vein. This causes the vein wall to become sticky. As the walls then stick together, the blood stops flowing through that vein, and reroutes through healthy veins. The treated vein becomes fibrous and gets absorbed by the body naturally.

●cosmetic sclerothrapy is the procedure of choice when treating spider veins, and around the world it is also the most popular and successful.
●sclerotherapy can be performed in the doctors consulting room. There is no need to book into a hospital.
●the whole procedure takes 15-30 minutes to complete
●the needles used to inject the solution are the smallest needles available
●a special illuminating device is used to illuminate the skin from underneath, making it translucent.
This effectively enables the feeder veins to be treated as well, necessary for the complete eradication of these spider veins
●in the week before a sclerotherapy, avoid any blood thinning preparations
●avoid tanning
●shave or wax the legs 2-3 days before the procedures

Afterwards –

●avoid strenuous exercise and hot baths for the next two days
●walking is very important. Walk for about 45 minutes each day for the following 2 weeks
●compression stockings will be required afterwards

Intense Pulsed Light

IPL treatment is for spider veins that are too small to be cannulated by the fine needle of sclerotherapy. It consists of a series of 4-6 treatments.

Intense Pulsed Light passes through the top layer of skin, penetrating the deeper layer where we find the spider veins. Some people experience purple discoloration as the blood vessels rupture under the intense light. Make-up should be able to conceal this, which usually resolves within a week.

Laser vein treatment

The hand piece is passed over the skin where the laser light is absorbed by the blood, causing the vessels to coagulate and be absorbed by the body.

●this treatment is used especially for spider veins in the face
●the eyes are covered to protect the cornea and the retina
●there may be skin reddening, bruising and blistering, which subsides over the next few weeks
●the patient may carry on with normal activities, but must protect the areas from sun exposure

Unfortunately, once treated, new spider veins can always develop over time, requiring treatment again. Things like menopause, menstruation, and pregnancy can all affect the development of new outbreaks of spider veins. So, while some patients can enjoy many years of good-looking legs, others are less fortunate and may require further treatment.
